Why does Apple sell refurbished products?
Apple offers most of its top of the line consumer electronics items at tremendous discounts by marking them down as refurbished products. These are items which have either never been used, or which have been restored to be as good as new.
This is not strictly the same as a “used” product, though there are some similarities. On the whole, a refurbished product is always superior to a used product, because the expectation of quality here is quite high.
What is the difference between Used and Refurbished?
Essentially, a used product is something that has been owned, has seen some wear and use, and is no longer considered to be in perfect condition. Used products can be fairly beat up at times, and are often not going to last very much longer.
A refurbished product may not have been used at all, or if it was used, it has been restored to a status that is essentially equal to when it was brand new. They are more often considered to be in perfect or near perfect condition, and have to pass quality control checks before being sold or resold.
The difference in terms of the way Used and Refurbished items are priced is not all that drastic. In fact, you can often find refurbished items for as good a price cut as their used cousins, in which case the refurbished item is always the better choice.
Why does Apple Sell Refurbished Products?
Well, there are really two choices for a company like Apple. If a product comes back to them because of a problem in shipping, because a customer changed their mind and returned it, or for a great many other reasons, Apple can either sell it as refurbished or just throw it in a landfill somewhere.
In fact, a lot of products come back to Apple, and to stores, for a number of different reasons. If there is nothing wrong with the product, or if the product can be restored to a state that is as good as if it were new, why would they not still want to make some money off of it?
It would be dishonest, however, to say that they were brand new, retail products, never before opened. It’s not good business to lie to consumers, so they have to call these products refurbished and acknowledge the difference by marking them down in price, often by a considerable amount.
Even though these items are as good as new, it is profitable to sell them at these reduced rates since the other option – the landfill – makes them no money whatsoever.
Are There Any Other Options?
With a service like FreebieJeebies, it is actually possible not only to get high quality consumer electronics and Apple products at a reduced rate, but at no charge whatsoever.
It’s actually a pretty cool idea. FreebieJeebies lets you earn free items by completing offers on their website, which are things like free trials. You don’t have to spend any money at all, and wind up with free products just for checking out the available offers.
Some people are skeptical about FreebieJeebies, which makes sense, so if you need more information you can read the following review: Is FreebieJeebies Legit? or Is FreebieJeebies a Scam?
It’s a surprisingly effective system, and definitely worth a shot if you’re looking for Apple products at reduced rates. Since, after all, free is a fairly low rate!
